Curtains Down (January 2012)

Following my return to Devon in September 2010 I had a period where I didn’t write for a long time but then I received notification regarding the “From Devon with Love” festival so I wrote and submitted Curtains Down. Initially I thought nothing of it but a few weeks later I’d been accepted and the production went down very well, with a highly amused audience that were mostly German tourists. From there I took the play to the One Act play festival in Exmouth but sadly it did not progress. However, Curtains Down was a turning point for me because it got me back into writing once more. I have provided the file and a link to its original performance below:

Suffocating (March 2008)

Suffocating was the most important play to me because it was my first. Written in my second year of university and developed from a set of monologues it is also my darkest play. Suffocating tells the story of Charlotte, a young girl sold by her mother and suffering a lifetime of abuse before her eventual emotional break, resulting in the murder of her captive.

Suffocating was produced in March 2008 at Liverpool Hope University and ran for three nights. Since then I have created a ‘trailer’ for it using the recorded footage and then many years later created my first film script set ten years after the events of the play. I have also provided a link to the original showing of the piece.

I would like to start stating that I am not a famous person or a rich person. I am someone who loves acting and has a passion for play writing, although it wasn’t always like that. From the age of 14 I considered myself a writer (egotistical I know!) I wrote short stories and poetry that now I look back and think ‘what on earth were you thinking?’

My love for the stage came just after starting college, I enjoyed being able to dive head first into playing another character and forget about the world around me.

It wasn’t until I started uni that I realised I loved creating plays as much as being in them and so I wrote and produced my first play in my second year of university (March 2008).

After graduating, I found myself in a creative slump, not having the desire to write anything. Then in September 2010 I returned to Devon, where I live to this day and started getting involved in amateur dramatics. I found myself loving being involved in shows but the want to write never left me.

So in 2012 (four years after my last play) I produced my next piece and things have progressed from there. I started this blog so that I could showcase my scripts and get feedback so if you are interested then please read and offer feedback.

So to my audience/reader, whoever you are….Enjoy!
